Bencomo competed in 1996 as Miss Carabobo in her country's national beauty pageant, Miss Venezuela, capturing the crown and the right to represent her country in Miss Universe 1997.

Miss Universe

As the official representative of her country to the 1997 Miss Universe pageant held in Miami Beach, Florida on May 16, 1997, she placed first runner-up to eventual winner Brook Lee of the USA.[1]
